“This collaboration enables us to create a proposal that reflects the Owner’s wishes while staying true to the Amels standard of quality.”

- Dorien de Reu, Former Project Designer,

Design & Proposal

How do you translate the very first ideas and the Owner’s vision, into a tangible concept for a yacht like the Amels 80?

“Understanding what the Owner truly values helps us shape the direction from the very beginning. With the overall design vision set by our exterior designer, we work closely with sales and the interior designer to translate those early ideas into clear visuals and layout proposals. This collaboration enables us to create a proposal that reflects the Owner’s wishes while staying true to the Amels standard of quality. It’s rewarding to see the Owner’s vision come to life through the visuals I create.”

Which design decisions ensured that the Amels 80 is both technically feasible and timeless in style?

“The timelessness of the Amels 80 comes from the strong foundation established by the exterior designer and the Damen Yachting team. My role is to help keep that vision consistent as we develop proposals, visuals, as well as general layout (arrangement), as well as design updates. I enjoy working with sales, marketing and engineering to find solutions that look elegant, but also make sense from a technical point of view. I appreciate the challenge of keeping the design both beautiful and suitable for construction.”

How do you ensure that the Amels 80 remains adaptable to future Owners while preserving the integrity of the original design?

“What I love about the Amels 80 is that the design already allows room for personalisation while staying true to its character. The core elements of the yacht are defined to protect its identity and quality, but there are built-in possibilities for future Owners to add their personal signature. My role is to bring those options to life through visuals and proposals, so Owners can clearly picture how the yacht could suit their lifestyle. It is rewarding to find the balance between keeping the Amels DNA strong and giving each Owner the opportunity to make it feel uniquely theirs.”

What does timeless design mean to you personally?

“For me, timeless design is when something feels effortless and balanced, where nothing needs to be added or taken away. It is design that remains beautiful even as trends come and go. When I create visuals, I aim for that same effortless balance, something that stays relevant, beautiful, and meaningful for years to come.”

What does it mean to you to quite literally leave your signature on the Amels 80?

“Honestly, it feels special. Knowing that my visuals and proposals contribute to how the Amels 80 is perceived gives me a personal connection to the project. Even though the overall design is created by our exterior designer, my contribution becomes part of the journey, from the first impressions to the moment an Owner chooses their yacht. I am proud to make a small contribution to something so significant.”

“For us, it is all about the final result, that moment when everything comes together and becomes visible. The Amels 80 is craftsmanship at the highest level.”
