“You know you have contributed to something unique, something that is truly a piece of art.”

- Bas van den Broek, Procurement

How do you select materials that meet the exceptional quality expected of the Amels 80?

“The selection of materials is a collaborative process. The interior design is sourced externally, and the designers work closely with the interior builder, our Client and, of course, with us. Together we form a four-way partnership that defines the yacht’s materials. Samples are created, discussed and refined with the end Client before the final selections are approved. When there is no Client yet, such as with a spec build, a dedicated Client team represents the Owner’s perspective throughout the process. From procurement, we then source the interior based on the detailed specifications that result from those design choices. Our role is to ensure a clear and balanced agreement from the outset and to monitor compliance throughout the build. We work closely with project management to make sure everything runs smoothly and according to plan.”

Can you give an example of a material or detail that makes this yacht unique?

“Almost everything we source for an Amels 80 is special, nothing is standard. There isn’t one single material that stands out above the rest, because it is really the overall composition that makes her unique. The harmony between interior and exterior design creates a sense of balance and sophistication.”

What is the greatest challenge in sourcing for a project of this scale?

“Challenge is a consistent theme across all our series, and we embrace that, but the speed at which we build adds extra complexity. It’s a fast-paced environment where accuracy and excellence are essential but, at the same time, we strive for improvement and new levels of perfection. With series builds, we must be consistent in quality. That is where our role as procurement specialists becomes even more important, guiding those improvements quickly and cost-effectively. We safeguard that process, ensuring it runs efficiently and harmoniously for all parties. Ultimately, it is about upholding the craftsmanship Amels is known for.”

How does sustainability influence your choices today?

“Sustainability is now an integral part of how we shape every yacht, including the Amels 80. It influences the materials we select, the systems we source and the partners we choose to work with. This transition is driven not only by regulations, but also by our own ambition as a shipyard to build yachts that combine luxury with responsibility. We see sustainability reflected in many details of the yacht herself, from hybrid propulsion to the use of more efficient materials and smarter production methods. Clients are increasingly engaged in this, asking how their yacht can operate more efficiently. Our task is to translate those ambitions into reality, finding the right suppliers and technologies to make it happen. In that way, every Amels 80 becomes part of a broader journey towards a more sustainable future.”

What does it mean to you to leave your signature on the Amels 80?

“When you are involved from start to finish, seeing the yacht sail for the first time is always special. What is even more rewarding is to see these yachts out in the world, being enjoyed as they were meant to be, Clients actively cruising and sharing photos from harbours around the globe. That gives a real sense of pride. You know you have contributed to something unique, something that is truly a piece of art. Each yacht has its own identity, and knowing that my signature is part of that gives immense satisfaction.”

“I see being a woman in this industry not as a limitation, but as an opportunity to bring a different perspective, challenge outdated patterns and show that leadership is defined by competence and attitude, not gender.”
